Privacy and terms

Your signature never leaves your device.

This page says plainly what the app does, what it sends, and what it keeps. I wrote it myself and I keep it current. If anything here is unclear, write to me.

What happens on your device

Everything that touches your signature happens inside your browser, on the iPad, phone or computer in your hands. When you sign on the screen, upload a photo, or type a name, the app traces it, plans the stitches, and writes the machine file. The file you save comes from your own browser. So does the PDF preview.

There is no server doing the work behind the scenes. I can not look at your signature if I wanted to, because it is never sent to me.

What is never sent

  • Your signature, drawing or photo, and the traced lines the app makes from them.
  • The names, dates and messages you type.
  • Your stitch files and PDF previews.
  • Your saved designs, your draft, and your settings, like machine, hoop and thread color.
  • Your name or your email, unless you type them into the sign-up.

Saved designs live in your browser's own storage on that device. They do not travel to another device unless you save one as a file and move it yourself. Some browsers, Safari among them, clear a site's storage after seven days without a visit, so keep a design you care about as a file: tap Designs, then Save under Move a design to another device.

What I count

I keep two anonymous tallies, so I can tell whether the app is being used and which machines it is being used for:

  • How many times the pages were viewed.
  • How many stitch files and PDF previews were made, with the file format, the hoop size, the kind of input, and the day. The kind of input is one of a few words: typed, drawn, photo, mixed when a label has more than one kind, or sheet for a beta test sheet.

That is the whole list. No address of your device, no name for your browser, no identifier of any kind, and nothing about the design itself. I can see that a Brother file for a 5 × 7 hoop was made on a Tuesday. I cannot see who made it or what it says. The tallies are kept as daily totals.

The counting is one short message from the page to this site's own address, with only those words in it, and the exact list is in the site's code for anyone to read. Cloudflare, the company that hosts this site, sees every request the way any web host does. That is theirs, not mine: I see only their overall visitor totals, never an address.

No accounts, no cookies, nothing from anyone else

You do not need an account, and there is no way to make one. The site sets no cookies. The pages load nothing from any other company: no analytics scripts, no fonts from a font service, no share buttons. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, adds a small script of its own to check for bots. It runs in your browser and tells Cloudflare whether a visitor is a person or a crawler. It is not analytics. The two outside links are the tip jar below and the beta feedback form, and nothing loads from either until you tap it. The feedback form opens on Tally's site in a new tab. What you type there, your answers, a photo, a first name or an email if you choose to give them, goes to Tally and not to this site. The sign-up posts to this site, and this site passes it on to Buttondown; your browser never talks to Buttondown.

The app remembers a few of your choices on your device between visits, like your machine and hoop, so you do not have to pick them again. That memory stays in your browser and is not sent anywhere.

The tip jar

Stitch My Signature is free. After you save a stitch file there is a small note offering a tip jar, because if the app saved you a trip to a digitizer, some people like to say thanks. Tips go through Ko-fi, at ko-fi.com/stitchmysignature. Ko-fi is its own site with its own privacy policy, and it handles the payment; I never see your card. A tip does not tell me who you are unless you sign your note.

Email, and the list

If you write to me, I keep your email so I can answer. Writing to me does not put you on any list. If you send photos of a stitch-out, they stay with me. A photo goes on this site only with your say-so, with your first name and your machine, and you can ask me to take it down at any time.

The list is separate, and you choose it. If you leave your email on the front page or in the small card after an export, it goes through this site to Buttondown, the service that sends my notes, along with your first name, your machine and your hoop if you gave them. Buttondown asks you to confirm by email before you are on the list, and every note carries a one-click unsubscribe. One note a month at most, and I never sell or share the list. Buttondown does not get your device's address from me, and it has its own privacy policy. If you say no thanks to the card, the app remembers that on your device and does not ask again.

Terms, in short

  • This is a beta. The app is still being tested. Check the PDF preview and stitch a test piece on scrap fabric before you use a file on a real project. I cannot promise a stitch-out will come out well on every machine, thread, fabric and stabilizer.
  • Your work is yours. You own your signature and the files the app makes from it. Use them however you like, including on things you sell. I claim nothing.
  • Free. The app is free to use during the beta, and digitizing a signature stays free after the beta. The tip jar is optional.
  • Changes. I will keep improving the app, and I will keep this page honest. When it changes, the date below changes with it.

Write to me

Questions, worries, or something that does not match what this page says: hello@stitchmysignature.com. I read every note and answer myself.
